How to promote your music

Here are 5 tips to help you get promoted in the music industry.

Get that little push you need to get those fans that can't get enough of you. It is the greatest feeling in the world being somewhere and a fan comes up to you and asks for an autograph! If you want to get to that stage then keep reading!

1. Do some B2B (Business to Business) Marketing

What I mean by this is contacting local/national radio stations, tv channels, websites that cover your genre, blogs like ourselves that will give you that little push.

Another thing to do is to contact already established musicians to ask to do some kind of collaboration with them or even ask them for tips also.

So in essence make sure you are building great relationships with the correct people and businesses in the music industry to further your career and increase your fan base.

2. Make great and original music

With the music industry as big and crammed as it is nowadays it is vital that you make great and original music to keep your fans interested.

For example when producing your album write around 20 tracks and pick the top 12-14 tracks to have on your album. Do some market research if you're not sure on which tracks to choose. Ask family and friends to help but don't let your fans know your doing this.

One big thing for me is to not do covers when starting up. Most bands and artists will always start their career with doing covers and they don't do as well as someone that starts with originals. This is because listeners will hear your sound with your original music and become fans, from then you can work on covers in your style.

3. Get a good manager

Having a good manager who has relationships already built within the industry can be a dream for some artists. If you are new within the industry and don't have those links, a manager can assist with getting your feet firmly in the door! They will already have built that all important rapport with local gig promoters, promotion companies, radio stations etc.

Just be careful not to get one that will ask for too much percentage of your earnings. For s start up band you would really want a manager who would be asking for between 10%-15%. Once you become more well known most managers will increase their percentage just be careful they don't take advantage and that you read up about this before making decisions.

4. Engage with your fans on social media

If you are an artist who hasn't got social media then you need to get on it now! Come on stop reading this and get making your profiles now!

If you already have a profile and have fans commenting on your posts make sure you engage with them, even if it is just a "thanks for the comment". Or if they are asking questions answer them as well as you can and not just blunt answers.

When you engage with your fans this will help grow your fan base because your posts will show up higher on their feeds.

5.Capture some behind the scenes videos

Videos are the main type of social post that will grab the attention of everyone. They will bring you the most engagement and you will see this by analysing your insights.

Capture some behind the scenes footage of your in studio time or on shoot of your newest music video. Then post this on your social media channels and watch it flourish!

Another good thing to do is use Instagram and Facebook stories when at these places and post them live. These are becoming the next big thing and are definitely something you need to get in on!

Hope this helps!
